The
Harambee Stars of Kenya, were left to rue what would have been a
shocking victory over the Super Eagles of Nigeria, after Nnamdi Oduamadi
scored a late equaliser, to snatch a draw for the hosts.
Celtic
midfielder, Victor Wanyama, felt that they were robbed of their first
ever win over Nigeria. Before this game, Kenya have only managed two
draws in 13 meetings with the Super Eagles beginning in 1968.
“We
were robbed. I am disappointed with the officiating. Added time was to
be three minutes, but the referee allowed it roll into five minutes and
that was when they equalised,” he said.
“We deserved a win and so we are so disappointed we did not take all three points.
“But I am very confident that when they come to Nairobi,we are going to take three points.”
Captain
of the side, Dennis Oliech, was however looking forward to the return
leg in Nairobi and insisted that they willo complete the “miracle” they
started in Calabar.
“I
would want to say that this draw was a miracle for us and we would
finish what we started here in Nairobi in June,” said an elated Oliech
after Saturday’s showdown.
“We came here to prove a point and that we have done.
“It was a very difficult game for us knowing that we were playing African champions who paraded great stars from Europe.”
